Frequently Asked Questions
Editions, formats, special orders and how books are packed.
Which translation of Meditations should I read first?
If you have never read it, start with a modern plain-English rendering — you will finish it, which is the main thing. Come back to an annotated edition afterwards if you want the historical and philosophical context. Both are on the shelf and each listing names its edition.
Are these books new or second-hand?
Everything listed online is new stock. Our second-hand books stay in the shop, where the condition can be judged in person rather than described.
Do you take special orders?
Yes. If a title is in print we can usually get it. Email the title and the ISBN if you have it and we will confirm availability and timing before you pay for anything.
Do you sell ebooks or audiobooks?
No. This shop sells physical books and objects only.
How are books packed for shipping?
In rigid board mailers rather than padded envelopes. Corners are what get damaged in transit, and a board mailer is the cheapest insurance against it.
What are the cards for?
A prompt deck gives you one thing to do on the days when opening a book is one decision too many. That is not a small function — it is usually what restarts a lapsed practice.
Can I return a book?
Unused books in resaleable condition can be returned within the window on the Return & Refund Policy page. A read book cannot go back on the new shelf, so please ask us before ordering if you are unsure about an edition.
How long does delivery take?
Handling and transit times and the daily cut-off are on the Shipping Policy page, and a tracking link is emailed on dispatch.
