About Monstera’s Books

Monstera's Books is an independent bookshop on Floyd St in Overland Park. The shelves in the shop are broader than the ones here; what is online is the section people most often ask us to post to them.

There are thousands of mindfulness titles in print and a great many of them are the same book. What is listed here is what we would hand across the counter — Stoic classics, meditation instruction that is actually instructional, prompt cards, and a very small number of objects that support a practice rather than decorate it.

With Marcus Aurelius in particular, the translation is the book. A modern plain-English rendering reads quickly and gets you through it; an annotated scholarly edition is slower and explains why any of it was written. Neither is the correct answer, but you should know which one you are buying, so every listing names its edition.

Everything listed online is new. Second-hand stock stays in the shop, where you can look at the condition yourself. If a title is in print and not listed, email us — we can usually order it in.

Books ship in rigid board mailers rather than padded envelopes, because a bent corner is the most common thing that goes wrong in the post. Orders ship across the United States in US dollars.
